Weak Equivalence in Propositional Calculus
نویسنده
چکیده
The main purpose of this paper is to present a new algorithm (NEWSAT) for deciding the (un)satisfiability of propositional formulae. It is based on a somehow dual (versus resolution) idea: we succesively add complementary literals to already obtained clauses instead of solving them. Hence, the unsatisfiability of a formula is detected by reaching “a complete set of maximal clauses” instead of reaching the empty clause. Only weak (semantical) equivalence is preserved. In fact, although the strong equivalence is not preserved, we have something more than a simple weak equivalence. To be more precise, in case of satisfiability, the number of truth assignments is also preserved.

A Canonical Form Algorithm Forprovingequivalence 0 F Conditionalforms
In [ 1) axioms and canonical form algorithms for proving equivalence for the theory of conditional forms are presented. These algorithms form the foundation of [2] where they are extended to enable proving the correctness of compilation. The algorithms are distinguished on the basis of whether or not strong or weak equivalence is desired. In the case of strong equivalence, an additional set of ...

متن کاملPropositional Calculus in Coq
I formalize important theorems about classical propositional logic in the proof assistant Coq. The main theorems I prove are (1) the soundness and completeness of natural deduction calculus, (2) the equivalence between natural deduction calculus, Hilbert systems and sequent calculus and (3) cut elimination for sequent calculus.
متن کاملFirst-order reasoning for higher-order concurrency
We present a practical first-order theory of a higher-order ⇡-calculus which is both sound and complete with respect to a standard semantic equivalence. The theory is a product of combining and simplifying two of the most prominent theories for HO⇡ of Sangiorgi et al. and Je↵rey and Rathke [10, 21], and a novel approach to scope extrusion. In this way we obtain an elementary labelled transition...
متن کاملEquality propositional logic and its extensions
We introduce a new formal logic, called equality propositional logic. It has two basic connectives, $boldsymbol{wedge}$ (conjunction) and $equiv$ (equivalence). Moreover, the $Rightarrow$ (implication) connective can be derived as $ARightarrow B:=(Aboldsymbol{wedge}B)equiv A$. We formulate the equality propositional logic and demonstrate that the resulting logic has reasonable properties such a...
